Sherry & Ken - United Kingdom destination wedding at the Syon House in London

Without a doubt this is one of my favorite weddings. Sherry & Ken are such a wonderful couple and I am quite pleased to call them my friends. We first met in Prague where I created a beautiful pre wedding portrait session for them. A few months later Ken contacted me and asked me if I would consider traveling up to London to capture their big wedding day. As Ken put it, after Sherry had looked through so many portfolios she simply said, 'I only want Kurt'. I was a bit speechless as these two could have had anyone in the UK or in Hong Kong for that matter. Of course I could not say no.

Their wedding venue of the Syon House is one of those grand houses you occasionally see in the movies or in television shows as it is one of London's most iconic houses. It is also the home (one of them) of the Duke of Northumberland and is his family's London residence. The fact that we had it all to ourselves for their wedding day and could create some beautiful portraits was something we were all looking forward to.

The day before their wedding we headed out quite early in the am for a mini portrait session with her very stylish desinger dress which was the most sought after dress that year. As we started our shooting it started to rain, in fact the streets started to flood and we had to cancel. I could tell Sherry was a bit disappointed and asked her if she wanted to try again that night. Due to their family commitments it was not possible. But with a smile she said, why not tomorrow evening after the wedding? Truth be told I was a bit concerned that they would be exhausted but Sherry loves to be photographed and this was her wedding so of course we said absolutely!

The day of the wedding went beautifully and I must say that the staff of the Syon House set a standard - as everything was perfect. The intimate wedding was beautiful and filled with laughter and lots of hugs. After a small break we all headed in to the city and had a fantastic dinner at Jamie Oliver's Barbecoa at St. Paul's. It was a fantastic dinner. And then it was time to head out for a few portraits. Though it was a very long day, they could not contain their excitement as we walked next door to St. Paul's and then towards Big Ben. Sherry was all smiles and Ken being the dutiful new husband did everything he could to make it easier on them (that dress is quite heavy). It was a wonderful way to top off their day and truth be told - I would happily do it again!
